I’m a little miffed. Today I got into a conversation/debate/whatever about choir. Okay, I will say that choir is not one of the MOST useful and needed classes at school. Of course it ranks under the core classes and such. but. it has redeeming qualities. it’s not useless. and it’s not necessarily something that’s important only to people who plan to make a living off of singing. the class isn’t just learning pretty music and having a good time. it’s my favorite class of the day, yeah. but that doesn’t mean that it’s easy all of the time. In choir you learn stuff like vocal techniques, musical theory, and musical history. you gain confidence and go out and actually perform for people. it’s the most amazing feeling in the world when you go from being a nervous wreck to stepping out and wowing the audience with a performance, and it’s not something that you ever forget, or go back on. once you get that confidence, it doesn’t go away. and let’s face it, you get a little social skills. it’s near impossible to be in a class with twenty-thirty-whatever or so people with no desks and not interact and meet people. and along with that comes a support system. (our choir’s like a family. we love and support each other.. and fight like cats and dogs.) you also learn how to work with other people. often we have to split into our voice parts and go learn songs on our own. I honestly could go on about this for a while. but you know, not too many people are actually going to read this.
and another thing. choir is not gay. It is not a class reserved for girls only, it is not a class full of girls and male pansies, and it is not a class that guys shouldn’t join. I’m pretty sure that’s the most common misconception. you suggest that a guy join a choir if he’s got some musical talent (even if it was a light-hearted suggestion) and you’re greeted with laughter or blank stares. I just think it’s silly when people have that view of the group. you know, last year in our choir we had one of the star football players at our school. and you know what? he was the lead in the musical. just because a guy might like to sing or perform in school does not mean that he’s any less of a guy OR gay.
side note: not knocking gays. just stating a fact.
/endrant.

As he was visiting his parishioners one Saturday afternoon, a new pastor stopped at one house and found that no one answered the door. It was clear that someone was home, but he knocked repeatedly and no one appeared. Finally he pulled out his card, wrote “Revelation 3:20″ on the back, and left it in the door.
That Sunday he found the card in the collection basket. Below his message someone had written “Genesis 3:10.”
Revelation 3:20 reads, “Behold I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with me.”
Genesis 3:10 reads, “And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked.”
you are the soothing hum
the grass stains on my jeans
the summer in my hair
the color in my cheeks
you are the the constant wave
beating against my heart
the warm honey on my lips
the paint on my nails
you are the perfect dance
and a moonlit ride
the sticky vanilla cream
you are the flower in my palm
the reason I smile
the chills down my spine
you are more than you’ll ever know
you are the love of my life
honey lover
